Quilt it or Cake it?

This cake for my Mother in Law has no writing on it, because it is in celebration of her birthday and Mother's Day, both of which we didn't get to celebrate together.  Putting those sentiments on the cake was going to come out something like "Happy Birth Mother's Day" but that just didn't sound right.

The cake is carrot, with cream cheese Swiss meringue buttercream and decorated to honor one of her hobbies.  There are three colors of "fabric", two designs of each color, laid out in a diagonal pattern with a fondant button on top.

Kermit The Frog

To enjoy this cake properly, it must be read in a convincing Kermit voice.  'Kermit the Frog here - to wish you a Happy Birthday'.  See??  Much better!

The cake is white chocolate with a dark chocolate ganache filling.  Kermit is made of Fondant/Gumpaste mixture.

Off to University Of Tennessee - make up cake

For the last of the cupcake orders unable to be fulfilled last weekend, I made this little UT cake of Red Velvet with cream cheese Swiss meringue buttercream.  With a Power T cut out of velum and laid against the cake, it was airbrushed, moved, and airbrushed again.

Graduation Make Up cakes

Due to a series of unfortunate events, I could not deliver on a couple of cupcake orders for graduation parties for some great High school graduates I really wanted to celebrate.  Arrangements were made for replacements in time for the parties, thank goodness.  Mostly to make myself feel better about the situation I'm sure, I delivered these two little cakes to the surprised graduates last night.  The sunflower cake is a butter/pound type of cake with peanut butter swiss meringue buttercream, and the blue cake is chocolate cake with dark chocolate ganache filling.  I've been working on improving freehand scroll work so these were done in a series of darker shades of the colors.
